Burnaston Parish Council complained to SDDC about the amount of weeds that are growing in the roadside kerbs, edges of footways, and all around the public highways throughout the parish.
On 29th June 2026, Cllrs Sekhon, Kirke and Muller, together with the Head of Operations (SDDC) and the Operations Manager (SDDC), walked around the parish and inspected the areas of concern.

A comprehensive list of actions was taken away and assurances provided to District Cllrs that these matters will now be addressed. This will include several immediate actions, followed by medium-term improvements and perhaps the introduction of an agreed rolling maintenance programme to ensure that standards are maintained once the current issues have been resolved. At this stage, there are no firm timescales, but it was stressed the importance of progressing the work as quickly as possible; hopefully, residents will begin to see improvements in the near future. SDDC acknowledged that the current standard of maintenance has fallen below what residents should reasonably expect, and they agreed that the community deserves better.
