Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement applies to www.burnastonparish.gov.uk.

Commitment to accessibility

Burnaston Parish Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This website aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 AA standard.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the WCAG 2.2 AA standard.

The council-controlled website content is largely compliant, with no critical accessibility errors identified during testing. Some minor issues exist in third-party-hosted plugins, which is outside our control.

Results of accessibility testing

The website was last tested on: 22 April 2026.

Testing included:

  • Automated testing using the WAVE Web Accessibility Evaluation Tool

  • Manual testing, including keyboard-only navigation and focus visibility checks

A representative sample of pages was tested, including:

  • Homepage

  • History page

  • Councillors page

  • Meetings & minutes

Summary of results

  • Errors: 0 across all tested pages

  • Contrast warnings: 1 (consistent across pages, This relates to a hidden “skip to content” feature, which is designed to support keyboard users.)

  • AIM Score: up to 9.9 / 10

Testing confirmed:

  • No critical accessibility issues

  • Full keyboard navigation support

  • Clear and visible focus indicators

  • Structured, readable content

Accessibility observation

A contrast warning was identified across all tested pages relating to a “skip to content” link.

  • This element is visually hidden by default

  • It becomes visible when accessed via keyboard navigation (e.g. using the TAB key)

  • It is fully functional and supports accessibility best practice

This behaviour is intentional and does not present a barrier to users.

Non-accessible content

Third-party hosted files (Wix Share folder)

Some accessibility alerts relate to files hosted via a Wix Share folder. These include:

  • Suspicious alternative text (1 instance)

  • Very small text (multiple instances, visually hidden elements)

  • Underlined text not presented as a link (1 instance)

  • Redundant title text (1 instance)

These files are:

  • Not developed by Burnaston Parish Council

  • Not under council control

  • Hosted on a third-party platform

Impact

These issues are minor (WAVE alerts, not errors) and are unlikely to present significant barriers to users.

What we are doing

  • We have reviewed these issues and confirmed that they originate from third-party content

  • We are unable to directly modify content within the Wix platform

  • Where possible, we will:

    • Provide accessible alternatives on request

    • Review options to replace third-party files with accessible formats

Content not within scope of the regulations

The following content is exempt from the accessibility regulations:

  • Third-party content not funded, developed, or controlled by Burnaston Parish Council (including Wix-hosted files)

  • PDFs and documents published before 23 September 2018 (unless essential to a service)

What we are doing to improve accessibility

We are committed to ongoing accessibility improvements and will:

  • Maintain high accessibility standards across all council-controlled pages

  • Ensure new content meets WCAG 2.2 AA requirements

  • Review third-party content where feasible

  • Provide alternative formats when requested
